I'm back at it again I suppose, lol. Last weekend I went to the Food and Wine festival at Disney World. As someone who lives in central Florida, I find Orlando and the theme parks are a sort of common weekend trip for me because they're only really an hour away from where I'm located. Plus, going to Disney World is relatively cheap for Florida residents... Not CHEAP cheap of course lol, but also not catastrophically expensive either. :-P
Anywho, I'm a huge bigback foodie, so I have been very hype for this event all year, LOL. Last year was my first time going, I ended up going kinda on a whim because we had made a weekend trip to Orlando to go to Halloween Horror Nights at Universal (didn't go this year but it is also very fun and I would highly recommend it if you are in the area) and didn't know what to do the next day. I'm not a very big Disney adult but Epcot is my favorite of all their theme parks and I saw they happened to have the Food and Wine festival going on that day so I said 'screw it' and bought tickets, lol. And needless to say...I'm a bit obsessed now.
My first stops of the day were these little booths they had set up at the entrance to the World Showcase area. They weren't really themed after any country like most of the booths I visited were, rather they had cozy fall themed treats. Things like cakes, soups, flavored beers, ect. At the first booth I got a trout filet served over pumpkin puree along with a banana bread flavored beer, and my boyfriend got these sweet potatoes sprinkled with goat cheese, cranberries, and crushed nuts. I am a huge fan of seafood so I was very excited to try the trout and it did not disappoint ! The pumpkin puree was also an interesting touch. The beer was also very tasty, i'm also a big fan of flavored beers ! The potatoes were good as well, of course I had to try a bite, LOL. At the next booth we got pumpkin ravioli with pomegranate seeds and a mortadella sandwich, alongside a peanut butter flavored beer for me and some sort of white wine for my boyfriend. We split the food pretty evenly this time and while both were very tasty, the mortadella sandwich was a huge winner for me ! It was served on on focaccia bread and I think had pesto and roasted red peppers on it ? It was just SO good.
My next stop was the France booth. We ended up getting A creme brulee with pistachio paste, a spiced cheese bun, and a cosmo for each of us. They also were selling escargot which I would love to try, but I'm allergic to shellfish which snails are apparently related to...?? I don't know, but I wouldn't want to chance it ! ^_^' We split this meal as well. The creme brulee was super tasty, I got it last year as well. Last year it had berry jelly inside it, but as I said earlier, this year they made it with pistachio paste... Which was fine but I kinda preferred the berry one ! The cheese bun was also very nice, the cheese filling had a pretty strong nutmeg taste which I love !! And i'm not really one for cocktails but the cosmo was a nice treat ! I just prefer beer personally !
While I didn't get anything to eat at the Japan booth, I did do some shopping in the gift shop. I would have liked to get the tuna handroll, but it was like 12 dollars and I can get a good handroll and the sushi place in my city for much cheaper, lol. But I did end up getting these super cute sushi themed Chiikawa danglers !
At this point we were getting pretty thirsty so I stopped by a drink cart and got a frozen mint tea, while my boyfriend went to the Greece booth to buy griddled cheese. This.... was mid as hell, sorry LOL. It was literally just a slice of melted cheese with some pistachios on top. Actually, there were a lot of pistachio themed items this year. Maybe I'm wrong, but I suspect it has something to do with the dubai chocolate trend ?
Next, I went to the Belgium booth. I got a waffle with cookie butter and my boyfriend got this beer braised beef with mashed potatoes. My boyfriend was pretty full at this point, so I ended up eating most of his as well, lol. You kinda have to get a waffle if you're gonna stop at the Belgium booth and it was tasty enough ! I got it last year as well, again with berry jelly. I'd say both versions of the waffle were good, I'm quite a big fan of cookie butter. And I'm not a big fan of beef but the potatoes that came with the beef dish were super super yummy !! They had like melted cheese and green onion in them, so good !!
We were both pretty full at this point so we decided to sit down for a bit and watch the American history animatronic show they have in the America section of the World Showcase. After that, we went to the Italy and Germany booths and these were the two I was most excited for ! At Italy I got this chicken Marsala with gnocchi and when I tell you it was the best thing I ate all day.... I'm kinda sad the picture doesn't do it justice because this was SO good. The marsala sauce had mushrooms in it and the gnocchi was served in this creamy cheesy sauce and it was just flavor heaven. SO SO good. We shared the chicken but I ended up eating most of the gnocchi because gnocchi is like one of my favorite pastas LOL. I was also super hype for the Germany booth because I love German food !! I might even go to an Oktoberfest later on this month for the first time ever, I love it so much. Last year they had bratwurst with pretzels and this year they had schnitzels. I also got a pilsner and my boyfriend got this orange spritz beer. The schnitzel was super tasty, it was like a very thin pork cutlet with lemon and served over potatoes ? It was my first time trying schnitzel and I liked it a lot !! The orange spritz was good, but the pilsner kinda just tasted like your generic "piss water" beer. It wasn't so bad once i put some of the lemon juice in it though !
Next was the Mexico booth. We actually went on the boat ride in the area first, which I swear they rethemed it to Coco recently but it's still Donald Duck themed....?? Idk, I must have imagined that I guess. I ended up getting this fruit popsicle with tajin and my boyfriend got a pork tostada. I was really excited to try the popsicle but tbh, I don't know how well tajin goes with icecream ! I love tajin and chamoy on fruit, but I don't know, the flavor combo with the ice cream was a bit odd !
The last stop of the day was the Hawaii booth. I also really wanted to go to the Spain, Morocco, and Canada booths, but I was just too full at this point ! I got myself a rice bowl with spam, eggs, and spicy mayo along with a pineapple wine, and my boyfriend got this pineapple-passionfruit cocktail thingy. The rice bowl was something I also got last year and it was so good i wanted to get it again, LOL ! The pineapple wine was also very very tasty, and one of my favorite things I had on my trip !
Before we left we also went on Spaceship Earth, which was closed last time we came ! I think it's probably one of the most iconic Disney rides, literally being inside the Epcot ball, and it was a nice was to close out the day! Overall, this event is super super fun and one of the things I look forward too all year and I'm hoping I will be able to go again next year as well !
